: Yes, a newborn infant can have a wide range of "normal" number of BMs per day. As long as they are not like hard pellets and they are drinking well and having 4-6 wet diapers (or more)/day. If you are breastfeeding, the BMs may be more frequent, smaller, and softer than with bottle feeding, but not necessarily.

i am feeling a lot of movement in my abdomen. it feels exactly like the movements if a baby. i have had four babies, but i don't believe i am preg.

Bowel Movements: She will go on her own when she is ready to go.  The biggest mistake we as parents make is thinking our babies have to go everyday.  If you keep stimulating her with the thermometer, she will get to the point she will only go when she has that stimulus.  So stop doing that.  Some babies go multiple times a day, some go everyday, some go once a week.  Adults do that too.  Be patient.

i can feel movement in my lower abdomen, i don't know what it could be because i had my period in february. surely babies don't kick at one month if it's a pregnancy ?

Fetal baby kicks...: The baby fetus can move, but nobody can feel it move until it grows bigger. Of course, you felt something, but it wasn't the baby fetus' movements. A pregnant woman may start feeling tiny flutters when the baby fetus grows older and bigger, usually around 4 months after conception. If unsure whether there is a pregnancy or not, one can do a home urine pregnancy test 3 or more weeks after sex.

havent had a bowel movement in 2 weeks. im almost 18 weeks pregnant with twins. can i take milk of magnesia? i have a true fear of taking any meds that has even a small risk of harming babies but i am so uncomfortable?

: some thoughts: Stool softeners like Miralax are composed of polymers that grab water tightly &amp; hold on to it while going through the digestive tract. Over a 3-5 day period it can keep stools soft enough that you can pass them without pain. These products are not absorbed into the blood, which is how drugs get to the fetus.They are safe.

Stimulation: Babies thrive on all sorts of stimulation,not just movement, colors, music, voice, colors, mobiles,- mix it up with lots of hugs and kisses-they will not overdose, but they will laugh and smile alot.

It depends: The problem is that babies aren't coordinated and don't open their sphincter immediately when they have a bowel movement. Also, it's harder to have a bowel movement when you are lying down. As long as the stool is soft, there really isn't a problem with them straining a bit. It doesn't necessarily mean that there is anything wrong. If the stool is hard balls, see your doctor for help.

Concerned : Using the head to crawl is unusual, especially when combined with abnormal head movements. An evaluation of motor strength and unusual muscular tone is warranted. A general pediatrician should be able to perform the initial exam and determine if further work up or referral is necessary.

Normal: Your infant is likely experiencing a growth spurt.  This is common for infants during this age period. They are so effectively using your breast milk that very little stool will pass sometimes for many days. You may also notice your baby wanting to nurse more often.  This is your baby's way to increase your milk supply. Contact your doctor if your baby does not have stool for a wk or blood.

my 12 week old formula fed infant appears to be constipated. is there anything i can do to help him have a bowel movement?

See below.: What do you mean by constipation?Some babies have a change in stooling pattern and may not stool every day,and then no need to treat.If your baby is having hard, infrequent stools and is uncomfortable,you can try to give him water in between formula bottles,and/or take his temperature rectally,which may stimulate him to have a bowel movement.If neither of those work, please call his doctor.
