is calamine lotion safe to use on babies?

Accepted Answer

No: The only thing calamine lotion will help with is drying up blisters.  If there are blisters, then put it only on the blisters and not the normal skin.

do babies need lotion? do they have drier skin then us?

Yes, moisturize: Babies do need more moisturizing.  Their skin does not produce as much natural oil as adults and it is more sensitive.  Extra moisturizing is needed because we use all sorts of soaps and cleansers on our babies to keep them clean.  All soaps, even gentle baby soaps will remove natural oils and dry out the skin.  This is why you should add moisture back to your baby's skin after bathing.

Derm: Yes especially if u love in a dry environment. Many products available for babies. Stay away from scented products. Just plan old baby lotion is okay.

used lotion on hands. i have 6 month old daughter. she just licked my hands. i then saw the lotion contains honey. is she at risk for infant botulism?

Infant botulism: I am sure honey is a small component in your lotion so not a risk but contact Poison control if she ingested a large quantity

Accepted Answer

No hormone issues: IT does not cause any hormone problems. Occasionally the scenting can cause some local irritation, especially in very young infants. The trick at that point is to go unscented. Is a very nice moisturizer.

other than infant sunscreen & lotion, shade hats, & cool clothing, what can i bring to protect from sun burn?

Allergy: This is likely an allergic reaction from sun exposure.  Should disappear on its own.

Oily skin: Sometimes when we have oily skin, our first inclination is to wash it with  cleanser more frequently.  But that often serves to dry out the skin more frequently, which causes your skin to become more oily.  It becomes a hard to break cycle.  If you think you're getting acne from the excessive oil, it might be good to at least talk with your doc about options - it doesn't mean you have to use them.

advice on clearing acne and blackheads? specific brand of medication or recommended lotions and stuff? is proactive effective?

Accepted Answer

Depends on your skin: Acne treatment is long term and needs to be changed and adjusted based on response from the patient. Proactive can be effective in some patients, as Retin A (tretinoin) or Benzoyl Peroxide, in different strengths. You should get your pediatrician first start you on a regimen, which you should follow religiously for 3 months before getting it adjusted as needed. Feel better??
