ALLERGIC REACTION: you may be having an allergic reaction to the Azithromycin. You need to be examined promptly and have labs checked (Especially Eosinophil level) I normally would treat with a prednisone taper over 8 days. If symptoms worsen and you have difficulty breathing go to nearest ER.

Maybe, maybe not: These are very different antibiotics and generally treat different bacteria, although there is some overlap. Whether azithro can replace levofloxacin depends on the particular kind of infection being treated and the bacteria causing it. For example, azithro is not effective against most urinary tract infections. Disucss with the doc or clinic where you are being treated. Good luck!

In most cases, yes: The major interactions of azithromycin is with phenytoin and warfarin, possibly digoxin, none of which are used in allergy. This is in contrast to erythromycin and clarithromycin, which may lead to sedation even with loratadine (Claritin, Alavert), which normally rarely causes sedation.

Clarithromycin (Biaxin) is similar to azithromycin (Zithromax). Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) is similar to levofloxacin (Levaquin). Antibiotic choices work much better when the bacteria or other susceptible germ is known with certainty, or with medical experience.

i took 1g azithromycin for throat chlamydia. i had sore throat for a few days, which i often get from allergies which have been bad lately. 5 1/2 days later, i was finally feeling better and a new partner put his penis in my throat. did i infect him?

: Azithromycin is effective for oral chlamydia. Your new partner is ot at risk:  even without treatment, when chlamydia is present in the throat, it is in very small amounts and there has never been a scientifically proved case of it being transmitted oral to penis (unlike gonorrhea).

You can stop: Yes you can stop.  It's mainly given for symptom control.  If the side effects are worse than your allergy symptoms I would stop.

Cipro/levoquin simil: Discuss this with your doctor first. There may be a reason why your doctor is using the regimen s/he feel is safer for you. With your tendon rupture history, you want to be safe, and stay away from all fluoroquinolones family (cipro (ciprofloxacin), levoquin) of compounds, since they have the same toxicity profile. Azythromycin is better for your lungs than cipro (ciprofloxacin). Tell your doctor of your tendon tear/ history.
