Not likely that: Gallstones grow rapidly within a month or two.  Size of stones is not as important as the symptoms they cause, however.  Multiple small stones can sometimes cause more problems than single larger stone.

Get it out: If you are having symptoms from your gallstone, you should have the gallbladder removed.  The stone will not get smaller, it will likely get larger and as it grows, it can lead to significant problems, including pressure necrosis of the gallbladder.  At your age, while you are still relatively healthy, the removal can  usually be done laparoscopically, with relatively quick recovery

Gallstone: Don't worry about the gallstone unless you're having problems. Typically these are intermittent, crampy right upper abdominal pain about 30-60 minutes after eating. Sometimes its at the bottom of the breast bone, sometimes goes to the back. For the rest, ask your doctor about it. Fatty liver is very common, and not progressive. Size sounds ok, but not sure which dimension. Hope this helps!

NO: Gall bladder disease has no relation to spenic enlargement, as in liver disease and portal hypertension.

Depends: Each individual is different, but most of the single Large Gallstones are in patients over the age of 40.  This suggest if it started in their 20's then 20-25 years to get to that size,  Symptoms start when it obstruts the cystic duct.

Getting Symptoms or: Not getting symptoms is important , not increase in size . If you have no symptoms ( pain etc ) you don't have to do anything just your doctors routine follow up care only but  If you are symptomatic get it removed it is a low risk simple procedure , highly trained Laparoscopic surgeons are available close to you . : Many other details matter, but in general surgery is to be postponed with exceptions involving distance to a hospital able to perform surgery and calcified aspect of the gallbladder, where surgery would still be recommended right away. Guidelines may vary as cost remains an issue.

through a routine ultrasound examination, i was diagnosed to have gallstones of 21x49mm in size. i do not have any symptoms though. someone suggested me to have my gallbladder removed simply because of large size. should i follow this advice?

: There is no clear answer. The stone is too large to pass on its own and may never cause any symptoms.

i recently found out i have gallstones (4). i dont have insurance so they sent me home since it was not an emergency. fast forward to a month of barely eating, my stool is oily and had black pea size balls. should i be more concerned or go back?

: Gallstones in and of themselves, do not usually have to be removed unless you're a diabetic, or symptomatic with nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, back pain, or fever .  Why aren't you eating?  Do fatty foods make you sick?  Have you recently lost a lot of weight?
Your lack of insurance does not determine whether or not you need to have your gallbladder removed, your symptoms do.

should i take birth control pills if i already have a gallstone w/ is about 3-4mm in size?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely not: Asymptomatic gallstones are of no consequence. If you have symptoms, such as RUQ pain, nausea , bloating, especially after fatty foods, you'll need to see a surgeon or focus on a low fat diet. Either way, you don't have to stop your bcp's. Good luck.
