No: Generally speaking asthma does not have radio graphic findings. COPD or emphysema does but they are different. Dx for asthma is made by clinical history, physical exam and with te help ofa pulmonary function test.

Sometimes: We do not diagnose asthma or COPD by x-rays or ct scans. That being said, we do commonly see evidence of emphysema on ct scans. We diagnose these breathing disorders with a pulmonary function test.

Smoke-damaged lungs: Hyperinflated lungs implies smoke-damage, which leads to emphysema, which leads to copd. If you haven't already, stop smoking -- you will live 10 years longer than your 42yo friends that keep smoking! the inhalers you're using are #1 steroid for lung inflammation, and #2 bronchodilator for coughing/wheezing. With luck, after 1-2mo you can stop #2 and maintain on #1, assuming you can quit smoking.

i am 32 years old, and i have asthma.  i recently had a chest x-ray and it said my lungs were hyperinflation with mild interstitial thickening. can this be asthma?

Yes: X ray indicates your asthma needs better treatment. Lungs are hyper inflated because they are not emptying normally due to bronchoconstriction. Need to ok with your doctor on treatment and breathing exercises and monitoring to make sure your treatment is optimized.

is it ok to have my chest x-ray this month even if i had it last january, because my doctor advised me to have my x-ray. i have asthma, ang i have a history of pneumonia last 2009.

Your : Your concerns about minimalizing radition exposure are valid; however, if you physician thinks you need a chest x-ray then you have to weigh the risks of the procedure versus the benefits.  For example, if you have having this chest x-ray to rule our pneumonia or cancer, most patients would choose to go for the exam as the risks of the procedure (very low) are far outweighed by the possible benefits (diagnosing possible pneumonia, cancer, i.E, very high).  In the end, is your choice.  If you are still not sure, i would recommend discussing with the physician that ordered the test.

ive been coughing for approx. 2.5months, it started after a cold( influenza(-),  clear chest x-ray). ive been taking antihistamines and it helps a little. but the cough doesnt go away and i suspect it could ben cough variant asthma.how can i know?

Pulmonology: Please see a pulmonary specialist for pulmonary function testing. Your chronic cough should also be evaluated with a chest radiograph to determine if there is chronic lung disease. Avoid smoke, dust, animal dander, pollen and other environmental triggers. 
Continue your antihistamine until seen by your PCP and Pulmonologist.
