Physician visit: An asthmatic may cough and then vomit if the asthma is not under good control. Other causes may be unrelated to asthma. If your child is taking an inhaled medicine, rinsing their mouth after use is advised.
Please see your physician to determine the cause of your child's vomiting.

Asthma: These are 2 very different things. If your child has had wheezing, and now starts with vomiting; it could be pneumonia. If your child is just vomiting, and his/her asthma is fine, then it could be a number of other things. Either way, call your doctor, and see if they think he/she needs to be seen.

Paint fumes: Paint fumes may be an irritant trigger for patients with asthma.  During acute asthma attacks, coughing to the point of vomiting (called post-tussive emesis) can occur.

Caught a virus ?: Most things that will give you those symptoms are viral illnesses like the stomach flu, etc.  Should the symptoms not improve in the next few days or so or should they worsen he should see his md.  Other more serious illnesses may begin with those symptoms but then worsen.  Have him rest, stay hydrated and see someone if not improving.  Hope he feels better.

my asthma "attacks" seem to involve vomiting w/ breathing issues. is this common for an asthmatic? what do most doctors consider as an "attack"?

Vomiting is not: common for an asthmatic but it can happen from stress which was put on gi tract during an astnma attack. An astma attack usually means difficulty to breath associated with wheezing due to reversible spasms and inflammation of the bronchial tree.

Your boyfriend: Needs to see his physician asap for thorough evaluation and help.  Vomiting every morning is definitely not normal.  Yes, this would be scary for you -- and i hope you'll encourage him to see a doctor asap.

Fluid loss: through vomiting and the runs can dehydrate your body.  You can feel very weak and have difficulty focusing or concentrating.  You need to see your doctor ASAP.  Peace and good health.

Frequency symptoms: If you have weekly symptoms, try a controller medication to prevent your symptoms. Rescue inhalers are used for infrequent acute symptoms. All the best.

Asthma issues: If you are coughing enough to urinate or vomit, you are coughing very hard.  Cough is an asthma equivalent, and I would seek medical attention to have it treated. Urination and vomiting are controlled by your parasympathetic nervous system that is being stimulated by the cough.  It is quite likely that treating your asthma aggressively will resolve these problems
