Not really: Although a diet high in antioxidant and omega 3 may be beneficial for asthma, there is no firm scientific datum to support it as yet.  Be sure that your vitamin D3 level is optimized.  Of course, any food allergen should be avoided if applicable. Do note that oral steroid used to control asthma exacerbation may worsen the glaucoma.

Accepted Answer

Depends: It depends on the severity of asthma.  It could range from only intermittent albuterol for mild intermittent, to needing increased amounts of inhaled steroids plus/minus leukotriene inhibitors.  I am not aware of any diet specific to asthma although one thing to keep in mind is that people with asthma concurrenty may have environmental or food allergies.

Steroids: Asthma itself will not make you gain weight, but frequent exacerbations that lead to the use of oral steroids will, as oral steroids make you gain weight. Your best options are to see an athma specialist to control your asthma adequately and avoid the use of oral steroids as much as possible.

Eating healthy: try and make all your meals from scratch.  Know what a serving size is for what you eat.  Avoid temptation by not buying non nutritional food.  Do some form of a work out daily.  Calorie count and weekly weigh ins to help your progress.

Inhaled steroid : A review of his asthma symptoms and medications is available at Healthtap. An inhaled steroid and medication adjustment is indicated. Avoid common triggers such as pollen,mold,dust and animal dander is advised. A diet rich in antioxidants is recommended.

Food's not the key: The stuff you see on the internet about this-or-that food or 'super-food' being very good/bad for this particular disease is almost all made up as entertainment. Eat sensibly and manage your disease carefully as your physician directs.

Physicians : Physicians usually rely on science and evidence to advise parents. It's interesting to speculate on causes but speculation is not evidence in the scientific meaning. Dairy and wheat allergies are diagnosed by specific tests and these allergies can be related to asthma and eczema. If the rash you are mentoining is eczema, it is impossible to say exactly what is causing it. Grapes may be exacerbating it and it is easy enough to eliminate that from a diet.
Inhalation of 'salt water' alone for asthma has not been proven helpful based on evidence. Saline is commonly used to mix medicine with to allow it to be aerosolized in a nebulizer. Saline can be soothing to irritated membranes and may also have a placebo effect. Asthma and eczema sometimes do resolve as children get older.

Sorry to hear.: Your friend should consult a physician & see if there is a possible link between her current health problems & her use of this supplement. Diet supplements are not a very well regulated industry & much harm has been caused by diet products sold at pharmacies & nutrition stores. Many of these pills have already been taken of the market, most notably those containing ephedra or ma huang.
