is there a difference between ascus and high risk hpv?

Yes: Ascus is an abbreviation used to classify changes to the cells of the cervix.  Ascus can be reported as hpv positive or hpv negative.  If it is hpv positive, then the high risk types of hpv are present and you should have a colposcopy of the cervix performed.  If it is hpv negative, then you can go back to normal pap smear screening.  After an ascus hpv negative, I have people return in one year.

i am scared for my high risk hpv and ascus results. i am getting a colposcopy, but i feel like i have no reassurance and alone in this situation. am i going to be ok? or should i be worried?

: Your third or fourth question. See other replies, which offered you a whole lot of reassurance. You're going to be just fine. The doctor when you have your colposcopy probably will have similar reassurance.

can you have both low risk and high risk hpv the same time? in late 2018, i was told i had low risk hpv. fast foward to now at 26 years old. i got results of high risk hpv with ascus. last years results, i got lsil. does that mean it regressed?

: It is very common to be infected at the same time with two or more types of HPV, which easily can include both low and high risk types. This does not increase your risk of a serious outcome. Your prognosis in regard to cancer is determined more by the Pap result (LSIL, ASCUS, etc) than by HPV risk level -- and LSIL and ASCUS usually are not precancerous. Recommend: a colposcope exam of the cervix to look with a 10x magnification of cervix, for potential pre cancerous cells that can be treated to prevent cervical cancer.

: Most infections don't last that long, whether high or low risk, but it isn't rare. Or maybe a new infection, not one persisting so long. LSIL to ASCUS is an improvement in your Pap smear.

i have high risk hpv (non 16/18) and my pap came back ascus. should i give up sex to clear hpv/dysplasia? can i still use condoms with my bf?

Repeat PAPs: Follow you doctor's advice on repeat testing by PAP. Giving up sex or using condoms per se will not affect the course of the disease. 
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.

when i was pregnant last year my pap came abnormal and the results were ascus, my doctor said i had high risk hpv and that hpv mrna e6e7 was detected, does hpv mrna e6/e7 detected mean cancer? can hpv mrna e6/e7 go away without causing cancer?

: Yes. HPV infection need not result in cancer. Get HPV vaccine to prevent infection with other strains of HPV. Get repeat PAP smears, as advised by your doctor.

Likely to advance: High risk hpv via colposcopy will usually mean cin iii or worse. If the abnormal pap test has not been followed up with colposcopy where the cervix is looked at microscopically please see your gyn.

how likely is it to pass high risk hpv on to your baby during a vaginal delivery?

Accepted Answer

Extremely low : The risk is extremely low except in very rare cases. Hpv is not an issue for vaginal delivery. Having hpv does not exclude you from having a vaginal delivery and having  a C-section because of hpv is not recommended.
