Both armour and thyrolar (thyroxine and liothyronine) provide too much T3 relative to t4, making it very difficult to keep tsh, free T4 & T3 normal.

Neither : The american thyroid association, the endocrine society and the american association of clinical endocrinologists all recommend the use of levothyroxine for the treatment of hypothyroidism and discourage the use of dessicated (dried) animal thyroid.

He/she will not: Armour brand dessicated thyroid is no longer the first choice of real thyroidologists to treat hypothyroidism. Be weary of anyone foisting it on you. See a real thyroidologist to find out if you really need any replacement for subclinical hypothyroidism.

Yes: Armour thyroid is a natural preparation from pigs thyroid gland. It has both T4 and t3 (liothyronine).

Take in evening : Thyroid meds are to be taken on empty stomach. Try to take ranitidine with evening meal and go on anti reflux diet.

i take levothyroxine and armour thyroid but it's been causing depression and chest pain. is there an alternative medicine i could be prescribed?

Sure this is cause?: I've had hundreds of patients on these meds and none have reported depression or chest pain; I question if these are the cause. Only options are levothyroxine, natural thyroid (Armour or Naturethroid) &amp; liothyronine (which is seldom used on its own). It's unusual to take both levo. &amp; Armour. hypothyroidism for 11 years. had 3rd baby sep19; armour thyroid med was recalled for being too potent and tsh went to .01 in may. been off all medicine for 8 wks and tsh is now .02. why still low? normal t4; had u/s on thyroid - norm: still nursing

Half life: Half life of T4 is about a week and it may take 6-8 weeks to return to normal from an overdose. You may wish to retest TSH levels in 3-4 weeks as the difference in .01 and .02 is not clinically meaningful.
