Sleep movements: Sleep is not static, it is dynamic, sleep is an active process, movements in sleep are normal, actually straining a muscle can certainly happen, if it is occurring frequently then you may need to see a sleep specialist to see if you have an issue called a parasomnia - something that occurs next to sleep.

i'm working out to build muscle. if my arm goes numb and falls asleep when i am sleeping at night will the muscle still heal and grow properly? thanks

Yes: it is common to sleep in a position which puts pressure on a nerve (in your neck for example) resulting in temporary numbness upon awakening! There is nothing wrong with your muscles!

what generally would be better for my back (i have lowback pain issues) if i sleep on my back with my arms over my head or just down beside me? seems like it would have some effect on the position of muscles and posture?

: Try sleeping with a heating pad or get a back brace. If no help see an orthopedist or chiropractor.

hi, a muscle in my upper arm started twitching regularly about 4 days ago. it comes and goes. can bad sleep be the cause. is it reason for worry?

Depends: A lot of the time, when you are stressed, malnourished, or not sleeping well, your muscles will twitch and jerk to try to reset.  If you have injured your neck or spine, then you should have your family physician check you.

See neurologist: The feeling of  tightness  in your arm muscles ,lasting throutght the day  should  not be due to sleeping position .Postural muscle tightness gets relived with change of posture and movements of arms .You may be having any neck problem or any other neurological problem .Consult your doctor / neurologist and get checked up to get proper treatment

RLS: Sounds like really bad restless legs syndrome which can affect your whole body at times. You may be iron deficient or have some liver or kidney issues as well. You need a little bloodwork and see your doc.

the muscle just on the backside of my shoulder has started being very painful, what can i do? it is closer to my neck instead of the edge. sleeping is very difficult. i've found keeping my arm close to my chest is best?

: Need examination. It could be a muscle or a joint or spinal issue. A careful history, physical examination and may be an imaging study could be indicated

Possible, but....: I would  be more concerned about the possibility or cervicsl comprtession neuritis orr nerve root compression. Please consult an orthopedic expert.

Hypnagogic jerk: A sudden muscle twitch while falling asleep is very common, and is called a hypnagogic jerk. There is a theory that this is a leftover reflex; a primate falling asleep whose muscles relax too much might fall out of a tree, and so we wake up to grab a limb. Drug interactions can cause or worsen lots of issues, and to help you figure that out would require a detailed history (including which meds?)

chest pain on the left side of my ribs, shoulder pain and left arm pain.
the pain has been intermittent for around a week. 
sometimes experience spasms when trying to sleep/waking up. 
possible nerve/muscle injury but unsure?
