Should be fine: I am not aware of any evidence that soy products will cause thyroid problems or interfere with treatment.  It remains the standard recommendation that thyroid hormone supplementation be taken on an empty stomach.

Makes no difference: The only thing that makes a difference is getting treated with the correct amount of brand name T4 to keep your levels normal.

No: Soy taken orally might interfere with levothyroxine absorption when it is taken at the same time. This really applies to hypothyroid infants taking soy milk.

ive been taking synthroid for hypothyroid since age 7. is it true soy products interfere with synthroid? id like to become vegan, if possible, and eat tofu and tempeh. would it be safe for me to eat tofu and tempeh?

: You should be periodically monitoring your TSH level to ensure that your hypothyroidism is under control. If tofu affects it, it should show up in TSH levels. Note that vegans are at risk of vitamin B12 and vitamin D deficiency and if you become vegan, take relevant supplements.

i take synthroid (thyroxine) every morning for hypothyroidism.  i normally have a soy protein drink every morning.  can the soy interfere with my synthroid (thyroxine)?

Yes it may interfere: Almost everything interferes with absorption of thyroid. If you have been drinking the soy drink with the thyroid, but your doctor thinks the levels look good then don't change what you are doing. However, if you are just beginning synthroid (thyroxine) therapy, wait about 1&1/2 hours after taking the synthroid (thyroxine) before drinking the soy drink.

hi i have hypothyroidism and i do understand that slimfast has soy in it. is it safe to drink ? i believe soy affects the thyroid gland. i am also on levothyroxine as a thyroid replacement and i take it every day.

Should be fine: As long as you aren't drinking huge quantities of soy then you should be fine.  Have your blood tests done in about 2-3 weeks to see if any adjustment of the levothyroxine needs to be made.

i have hypothyroidism due to hashimoto's disease. i take synthroid 125 mcg but still don't feel good. i'm moody, irritable, my hair is falling out... is there anything else i can try instead of synthroid?

: First thing first that you have to make sure the Synthroid dose is enough. Your doctor can check TSH level for confirmation.
Synthroid is the right drug for replacement therapy. For some reason we do not know, some patients have to take thyroid extract in order to achieve euthyroid (normal thyroid function) status.
Remember to take Synthroid with an empty stomach first thing in the morning.

Taking right?: are you taking it correctly?
Needs to be taking first thing in the morning , empty stomach without any other pills.
