Not harmful: No problem not taking protein powder.  The standard for protein is albumin (egg white).  You can get all the protein you need by eating normal foods.  Of course, if one is trying to build lean body mass (i.e., build muscle), adequate protein is important.  But there are lots of other sources of protein besides "protein powder."

hello! could you guys please give me a few safe options for whey protein powder brands that you use personally or would use. im going to start incorporating them after the gym, but i want to make sure im not buying ones with bad/harmful ingredients?

As stated in the article there are NSF certified powders "Certified for Sports"  that are processed in a GMF facility and do not contain toxic levels of chemical/ metals like arsenic or mercury.

Check nutrients: Supplementation is controversial. You should check all additional additives before continuing and also consider getting baseline bloodwork and studies.

Whey protein powder: contains very little lactose and so many lactose intolerant folks can use it w/out issue.  If you can't, there are lactose free whey protein powders on the market.  Make sure it is from free range cattle rather than cows penned up and fed hormones and antibiotics.  Peace and good health.

5.5 mm kidney stone just removed thru medicine. is it harmful to take protein powder for gym purpose after that. will it create stone again?

Need to drink water: If it is the first time you had the kidney stone usually there is no need for further testing. Taking protein supplements may cause stones but more important is to drink plenty of water. Urine should look clear. Also need to lower salt intake. Check with your doctor for specific dietary restrictions.

Minimal: Whey protein isolates are generally very safe to ingest. There is a potential for some abdominal distress if you take too much at once, but this is rather rare. Assuming you have no other medical issues that would preclude you from processing protein, you should be just fine.

There are two many?: There are two many to recommend even three or four! but there are many considerations. Stay with 100% whey protein if possible, avoid soy blends.  Not as efficient. Avoid those with large amounts of carbs, which is usually milk sugar. Flavors are nice. Avoid the added expense that added branched chain Amino Acids add! and cost. Whey is whey. Go to places like cosco, sam's, walmart, and target!

Likely not: There are a few medical conditions where supplemental protein might be unwise but if you are normal these products are just another simple source of nutrition.They would be helpful if you do not have an otherwise balanced diet and that is their selling point. However, most would do just as well without them. Working with a dietitian to identify weak areas in your diet might be more help long term
