Painful arch: First is get your foot and shoes evaluated.  Sometimes bad shoes may be the reason.  Good supportive shoes may do the trick..  If not, custom inserts, physical therapy, antiinflammatory meds may help.  Evaluation by a podiatrist is recommended.

Arch pain: Many people suffer from flattening of the arches when they stand up (flexible flat foot).  This changes the position of the tendons and joints in the foot, causing muscular imbalance and sometimes even arthritic changes.  It can also put stress on ligaments, such as the plantar fascia, which runs across the bottom of your feet and supports your arch.  Visit your podiatrist if it does not go away.

Overuse: Most likely you suffered from a sprain or strain to your foot.  Try simple things like rest, ice and elevation.  Anti-inflammatory medication such as Motrin may be helpful. You may require an orthotic (arch support) to prevent this from happening again in the future.

Support is needed: There is most likely some sort of strain in that area which involves either a tendon, plantar fascia or both.
Good supportive shoes are important , but insoles are also very important.  Most of the Over The Counter insoles do not provide enough support.   You may have to see a foot specialist to get evaluated and fitted for an appliance.

Be seen: I would definitely be seen rather than give up your previously more active lifestyle.  It may be something as simple as a minor foot malalignment issue that may completely respond to an orthotic or change in your shoe wear.  Be seen.

Pes cavus: High arch causes increased pressure on the front and back of the foot. This can cause pain, calluses, arthritis, deformity. Sometimes genetic causes, sometimes spinal cord/tethered cord issues.
