Many: Abdominal pain, initially in the umbilical area, moving to the right lower quadrant, fevers of about 102, nausea/vomiting and diarrhea.  This constellation of symptoms should prompt you to be seen.

Depends on treatment: Your recovery depends on many issues.  Was this perforated appendicitis with abscess, or uncomplicated appendicitis treated by laparoscopic appendectomy?  Most people feel better within 48-72h after laparoscopic surgery, and are back to usual activities in 7-10 days.

Appendicitis: Nausea, vomiting, fever. Pain may start on the upper abdomen or belly buttom, but always migrates to the right lower quadrant area (a point b/w belly button and hip bone). Belly muscles become tighter.   Usually on  teenager or kids. See physician.

Chronic mild pain: There would be right lower quadrant pain, but it would be mild and vague. There could be some low level fever or malaise. Unlike acute appendicitis, there is  only mild loss of appetite. Again, this is uncommon, and there's not a typical presentation. A ct will show some thickening of the organ, but not the intense inflammation or stranding seen in the acute illness. Good luck.

Bad abdominal pain: Generally starts as vague abdominal ache around the umbilicus that progressively worsens and settles as severe pain in the right lower quadrant. Most patients loose their appetite and can experience nausea and vomiting. A physical exam by your physician can often make the diagnosis and this is often confirmed with a CT scan.

Appencitis: Although appendicitis can happen at any age 10 year old and 20 year old males are very common times to get an appy.  The pain is usually not severe initially, but gets progressively worse to a degre that it is difficult to stand or walk. Most people with an appendicitis want to lie still.

Chronic appendicitis: Yes, on occasion, appendicitis is indolent, and can persist without rupture for weeks or months. This is not the usual presentation, which can progress to rupture in 18-48 hours. Just this week we had a patient with a month long presentation, without ever rupturing. Typically, appendicitis presents with peri-umbilical pain, loss of appetite, pain then radiates to rlq. Hope this helps. Good luck.
