Odds Not Great: The symptoms given can be found with several congenital chromosomal anomalies &amp; do not point specifically to Trisomy 18. Palatal cleft is more commonly seen with Trisomy 13, Short fingers are commonly seen with Trisomy 21. Type of "cysts" is not given. Each Trisomy has reconizable features but there is overlap. A detailed exam by Pediatrician or Geneticst is needed to assess these findings.

It can be: We often classify patients with cleft lip and palate as having syndromic or non-syndromic conditions.  Syndromic clp typically will have some genetic basis.  It is important for a child with clp to be treated by a multi-disciplinary team which would include a geneticist that can help sort out this question for an individual child.

Repair: Typically we like to repair cleft lips when the baby reaches 10 pounds, 10 weeks of age and a hemoglobin of 10 or more.
Cleft palates are normally closed at 8-12 months so that the maxilla can get maximal advancement which prevents extra surgery at  a later date, .

Depends on variables: Facial and palatal structures form over the 5th-10th weeks and clefting in either or both structures is evident during this process. Depending on the skill and equipment of the ultrasound tech, the cleft lip and palate may be seen. A cleft lip can occur without a cleft palate as can the opposite. Some minor clefting is hard to detect until delivery.
