Mainly causing liver injury, Acetaminophen toxicity is one of the most common causes of poisoning worldwide. In the United States and the united kingdom it is the most common cause of acute liver failure.
 
Many individuals with paracetamol toxicity may have no symptoms at all in the first 24 hours.

Should be OK: Tylenol (acetaminophen) causes a chemical hepatitis when taken in excess.  There are people who can have long term liver complications with Tylenol (acetaminophen) overdose or liver failure.  If you have recovered and do not have any other liver problems taking a dose of  Tylenol (acetaminophen) should not be a problem.

No: While there are some people with very sensitive livers, this reported amount of acetaminophen intake really shouldn't create any significant issues.

Standard protocol ;: Good question. Nac is well-proven to work ; is the standard protocol. Glutathione might work as well or better but i'm unaware of any studies showing it works. Also, standard glutathione is poorly absorbed orally. It might work well given IV but has a short shelf-life ; is not generally available in er's.

Maximum Tylenol (acetaminophen) Dose: The current maximum daily dose of Acetaminophen (tylenol) is 4000mg, divided into 1000mg doses, every 6-hours.  This maximal dosage should only be continued for 7-days.  All the above is predicated on the adult patient having a healthy liver, and no other medical or pharmacological contraindications.  Moreover, what is the underlying cause?  That is the most important question that needs answered.

Acetominphen overdos: Although the actual parent drug acetominophen is relatively little toxic, the body (liver) makes a very toxic chemical out of it that can quickly destroy the liver cells. This is or was the most common cause of suicide in great britian. The toxic dose is about 3000 mg and higher, but it is not possible to tell what an individual's toxic dose is. An emergency intravenous medication is available.

Bind organic mercury: It has been written that the first aid for an ingestion of an organic form mercury is to give milk and egg whites to bind up as much of the organic mercury as possible. Presumably, the person would then try to vomit to get the milk - egg white - mercury mix out of his stomach. Not sure if anyone has proven this.
