i seem to get hungry half an hour after i just ate. my stomach growls and feels empty. might it be antidepressant ?

Accepted Answer

Depends: Hunger after eating might be a physiological predisposition (genetic) triggers by environmental factors.  What you ate (eg lacking fiber or dense nutrients) is more likely the source than a medication.  Without knowing which antidepressant you are on, one cannot answer if there is a relationship. There are some antidepressants that increase appetite ... you might actually just be still hungry.

Accepted Answer

No: Antidepressants dosage is adjusted according to beneficial effects or side effects.  They are generally well absorbed and blood levels are not informative.

i read vitamin b and c can augment the response to antidepressants. can i take them at the same time with prozac (fluoxetine) on an empty stomach?

Accepted Answer

No bad reports: This doesn't mean it's impossible to not go well but if you take a recommended dose of a high quality brand it's probably fine. Best is to discuss it w/ your Dr.  If the Prozac (fluoxetine) upsets your stomach, try a bit of food or milk with it.

i have constant gurgling noises from my stomach. gas and needing to poop, along with pain all over my body. only thing that stops it is antidepressants (amitriptyline. is this fibromyalgia?

: Not fibromyalgia. What you have sounds like a ‘nervous stomach’. The fact that this one symptom can be controlled so easily, also rules out the systemic facets of fibro. Good,luck

my friend has a pain like a muscle strain in his stomach. it doesn't goes away. it's in the upper right side. he has bloating too. antidepressants help with the bloating but the pain still there. he can't stretch his arms back without pain?

: You should rule out Gall bladder disease as the pain is in right upper quadrant and he has bloating. He /she should see a gastroenterologist for further evaluation. An ultrasound of upper abdomen can help rule out GB disease.

SERDEP: Nausea  can occur in up to 26% of people taking Sertraline (SERDEP).  Abdominal pain can occur in 1% to 10%. Eye pain in 0.1% to 1%. Depression could be aggravated in 1 to 10%.

Anti depressants : Anti depressants do their thing modulating the neuro chemicals within the brain. You must do your thing to deal with the cause of your depression otherwise they will never achieve their function. Hope this helps.

Yes. but disputed: According to Kirsch, the mean differences between the antidep. &amp; placebo were small, the differences were in favor of the drugs &amp; they were statistically significant.  What this means is that the drug did appear to have some effect on mood  proven by the data.  This small difference accounted for in 2 ways:1- the active drug actually has an effect, 2-  that their is also a  placebo effect.

This includes serotonin (e.g. Ssri, prozac, celexa, zoloft), serotonin and norepinephrine (snri, Effexor (venlafaxine) and cymbalta), and Dopamine (e.g. Wellbutrin).
