my 24 yo son has recurrent infection of lingual tonsils...strong antibiotics and antacids are all that is offered by docs. any advice?

Talk to ENT: You may want to have this discussion with an ENT surgeon. There may be other options, which include surgery, that can help. The antacids make me think that something else may be going on, is there a history of reflux?

test for h.pylori. am on two antibiotics, 1 antacid and 1 anti-nausea. low grade fever for over a month. taking hida test friday but started getting very dizzy today.  what should i do until friday?

Bleeding ulcer?: If you had an ulcer you could be bleeding and getting dizzy... But your stool would be black or burgundy.  See your doctor.

how do antacids differ from antibiotics?

Acid vs. bacteria: Antacids work to combat  stomach acids that cause reflux, sour stomach, etc.
Antibiotics are designed to kill bacteria that cause infections!

Depends: Check with the pharmacist regarding the specific medication to which you are referring; antacids in general can cause poor digestion of medications.

i am on the zpac antibiotics for bronchitis and i know i can't take antacids, but i have heartburn and am wondering if gas-x is considered a antacid?

Accepted Answer

No: No, gas-x is fine with zithromax, it is not an antacid.  Antacids would be considered things like tums, rolaids, maalox, etc.  If you're having minor heartburn, you could take Pepcid or zantac, (ranitidine) those are not antacids, either, and can be taken with zithromax.

i am taking the antibiotic cephalexin, is it fine to take antacids (mylanta) while taking the medication. will it cause any interactions?

Accepted Answer

: You are concerned that the Mylanta might trap some of the antibiotic and lower its effectiveness.  This is not likely with this combination.  To play it safe, take a 1/2 hour interval between the ingestion of the pill and the Mylanta.  That will guarantee that there is no cross interaction.

what is the suitable treatment for controlling h pylori gastritis until one gets the appropriate antibiotic treatment? ppi + sucralfate or ppi + antacids?

: I know you are very anxious as you have posted some questions about this.  The first hinges on why the antibiotics were not completed in the first place?  Side effects?  Stomach or headache?  Whichever of these combination you find best will do until you see physician or gastroenterologist.

my throat hurts and i noticed visible veins next to my uvula and its 2 months now i have tried antibiotics,anti bacterial sprays and anti acids aswell but nothing seems working any help would be appreciated?

: I doubt what you have seen is the cause of your chronic sore throat. However, you should be examined thoroughly for this chronic symptom by an ENT doctor. Good luck.

how can i help stomach ache/pain from antibiotic usage? i've taken cvs brand probiotics, but no relief. can i take tums/pepto? any other suggestions?

It depends...: ...a lot on the particular antibitoic(s) you are taking. Some can be taken with food or antacids to reduced stomach upset, but there are a few for which antacids may reduce absorption and effectiveness. Also, severe pain or diarrhea could mean a serious side effect that needs treatment. Contact the doctor or clinic where the antibiotic was prescribed.

See a doctor: I recommend you see a doctor who can ensure that you  not have strep throat or bronchitis.
