im due to get my monthly b12 injection tomorrow, but im currently on cefpodoxime for a bad uti. is it ok to get the injection while on antibiotics? will it make the antibiotic any less effective?

: No known interaction between B 12 and Cefpodoxime, vitamin B12 will not make the antibiotic less effective. Make sure your treating physician is aware of all your current conditions and treatment.

why would a doc prescribe antibiotic im injections for a hydrocele if there is no case of uti?

Unknown reason: There is no indication for im injections of anything in connection with any treatment for hydrocele. Dr was either prescribing it for another condition or else doesn't know what s/he is doing. Question dr. If you like, otherwise suggest you see a urologist.

Possible: If the UTI is attacked head on with forced fluids and you have a good immune response, it is possible to flush out the bactreia in the bladder and the body wins the battle.  I would not count on this.  If you have burning, pain, frequency of urination, need to go immediately, and cerainly if fever, back pain, nausea, chills or vomiting, get seen right away for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

Use antibiotics: I am sure that every UTI throughout history was not treated with antibiotics and somehow we survive. The risk of not treating is substantial as kidneys can be damaged permanently or infection can spread to the blood making us critically ill. Cranberry juice and increased fluids may help but get on antibiotics when you really need them, like with a uti.

Antibiotic: To be sure of which antibiotic (A) to take, you need to have your urine cultured.  This will tell you the bacterium that is causing your UTI and antibiotics can effectively treat it.You can start a broad spectrum A at first and if the bacterium is resistant to it, it can be switched to one that is effective in treating it. Depends site of infe: It depends on site of infection and the antibiotics used.If the culture shows sensitivity to certain antibiotic for lowe UTI it takes 7to10 days for infection to clear.But if the infection is high up in kidneys(pyelonephritis)you may need longer course of antibiotics 2weeks or more to clear the infection.

No: Flagyl (metronidazole) is used for the treatment of certain types of vaginal infections (bacterial vaginosis and trichomoniasis). It has no effect on the types of bacteria that generally cause a uti. Appropriate vaginal and urine cultures can best identify the presence and cause of these types of infections: vaginitis and uti.
