Any Brand is Good: It does not matter you can use any brand and if it does not get better than consult your doctor as you may need a topical antibiotic and/or Systemic Antibiotics

Soap &amp; folliculitis: Daily bathing or showering with any soap will reduce the risk of folliculitis. Once folliculitis is present, the same hygiene program may help, but no soap of any kind cures folliculitis. The main prevention is avoiding shaving in the involved area. Severe or persistent cases often require antibiotic treatment.

Any soap: There is no evidence that additives to soap are any more useful than regular soap.

: That's a somewhat unusual location for folliculitis; there are few hair follicles on the underside of the penis. If the "white spots" are blisters or pimple-like, get checked ASAP for herpes. Good luck.

: Since these spots, which are usually slighly raised, &amp; are on a hairless area of the penis they could be harmless Fordyce spots occurring from ectopic sebaceous glands within the skin of the penis. I believe a dermatologist would be best to evaluate and advise you.

i've scalp folliculitis, used bactroban (mupirocin) ointment 3wks &cloxacillin 3x/day for 1wk bt still grows more, shld i continue both?will dr.kaufman xps soap help

No: I find that scalp folliculitis is treated best with a topical prescription antibiotic such as Clindamycin solution. Sometimes, an oral antibiotic is needed as well.

is it ok to use dettol anti bacterial soap on scalp to prevent reoccurring  folliculitis caused by bacteria?

Accepted Answer

Ok: For prevention,wash  twice daily using warm water and the antibacterial soap like dettol. Use a fresh towel each time. Also avoid sweating and friction in areas of skin prone to folliculitis.

can pityrosporum folliculitis slightly mimic scabies? where on body would it appear? would antifungal soap clear it? how would one be tested for pf?

Not really: It is frequently misdiagnosed as acne. If you're using acne meds appropriately and things are not getting any better think maybe you have PF. Should be treated with anti fungal meds. Scabies most commonly appears at pressure points of clothes on skin- belt, wrists, and the webs of the fingers.

my doc prescribed me ketoconazole 2% shampoo for  folliculitis & sores on genital area , do i still use regular soap afterwards? how do i use it?

See a dermatologist: If you use ketoconazole shampoo all over, you do not need another cleanser. Your polypharmacy suggests that your DR is using a "shotgun" approach to therapy and may not feel confident of her diagnoses. Ketoconazole shampoo is safe, cheap, easy to use. Might as well use it in shower every day.

See your doctor.: If you have not seen your doctor for this, you should. You may need treatment with an oral antibiotic.
