Probably not: Sertraline does not guarantee weight loss although some patients would spontaneously lose weight due to the side effects of the medication or the treatment of an atypical depression.  It is not common to see massive weight changes on sertraline and some patients would even gain weight on sertraline. : Before dieting get checked out. See your GP (if you don't have one, find one) for a full physical and baseline lab tests. Your Physician can then craft for you a safe and effective weight loss program that will not place stress on your heart. Note also that your Physician may want you to consult with a Nutritionist.

Individuals differ: Vistaril (hydroxyzine) is an antihistamine with mild sedating and anxiety-relieving effects.  It doesn't work the same as a benzodiazepine (valium, Ativan etc), but then it's not addictive either.  Some people get a lot of relief from vistaril (hydroxyzine) and similar meds; some don't.  Talk to your doctor about what works for you and what doesn't. There may be other options to explore.

Not taking : Anti-anxiety medication can certainly cause problems as many of them have a short-term effect and the anxiety will re-surface quickly.  Antidepressants, on the other hand, have a longer lifespan in the system and while it is not a good idea to skip a day, you should not feel it too much -- as long as you have been taking them for a while.

Not a good idea: the medicine works because of the consistent use of it in your bloodstream, thats how it keeps you calm. Everyone freaks out over side effects without giving the medicine a try. you might have none. I have taken medicine post surgery and had little to no side effects. Rethink this. Ask your doctor for any more questions.

Maybe: Though there is no scientific and repeatable study directly linking these medications with diabetes, there have been studies that show a correlation for some people after long term use having an increased risk of having type 2 (adult onset) diabetes. Chronic use Ativan (lorazepam): While this is a very common story, it is not good medicine to be on daily or chronic use of benzodiazepines. Ativan (lorazepam) is in this class of drugs.

It sounds like he is having negative effects from this and he should, in my opinion, stop the medication and get to his psychiatrist...Or choose a new mental health provider to discuss safer and more effective drugs to prevent anxiety
