See your doctor: Or ask to see a specialist. Looks like you have x-rays and MRI and surgery but have not given any details of these or what the surgery was for on the hand /wrist. Your doctor would be the best person to address this since they have all this information.

Swelling: A ganglion cyst is usually, but not always well defined.  It can be tender.  Swelling may also be caused by inflammation of the joint such as synovitis or from arthritis.

Millions of causes: Your complain is very general. Things that cause that include severe strains, sprains, arthritis, trauma, autoimmune diseases, metabolic problems, etc. Swelling is a very non-specific finding and has so many causes that identifying the cause takes more than 400 words allows me to help. If it is causing you problems, then getting a doctors opinion should give you peace of mind.

Warm compresses: Sounds like you have IV site related superficial thrombophlebitis . This usuall y responds well to warm compresses , elevation, and time. These superficial vein IV lesions are generally not serious and may take a week or two to go away. If it doesn't or are u are concerned  about size , etc see your primary care physician. Gravity: Veins bring blood back  to heart, but they don't  gave pulse like artery (arteries bring blood with oxygen  to all tissues in your body).  When putting hand down you get venous pooling due to gravity , making veins larger.  Movement, elevation of hand, and the muscle contraction all over your body helps bring the blood back to the heart. Amazing isn't it.

Have you been seen: Without seeing your xray hard to say but you should probably get seen by an orthopaedic surgeon.  Treatment will depend on how bad of a break: whether there is substantial displacement and thus need for a reduction (realignment of the broken bones) either closed or possibly surgery.

Many possibilies: If it were just the ankles you would think fluid retention which did very well may be. However with wrist involvement you should be evaluated and tested for other possibilities, including autoimmune disorders; rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus, are examples. Lab tests will help determine possibilities, including infection, autoimmune, and degenerative agents.

Wrist & ankleS: If both sides are affected then it is caused by a generalized disorder like arthritis ( either osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, reactive or other like lupus ).  If it last only few seconds or minutes. It even could be an equivalent for angina ( heart disease). Coexisting carpal tunnel with tarsal tunnel syndrome would be rare.
