There are also resistant bacteria and anaerobic bacteria that do not respond to this drug.  You should seek professional guidance with this infection and treat it quickly.  Removing the stud  should be considered.

Herpes virus : your son has herpes virus - most likely type 1 herpes virus that causes ulcers or blisters first  1/2 of tongue and causes swollen gums.  The fever to be treated with Motrin or Tylenol (acetaminophen).  popsicles, water ice, ice cream, yogurt on cold spoon should keep him hydrated. If he refuses to eat or drink and is peeing less, he may need some lidocaine or magic mouthwash to numb gums and tongue &amp; seen by dr.

Allergic to meds: It's possible you are having a reaction to the amoxacillin.  The white appearance of your tounge is a different issue and most likely benign.  The red bumps on your tounge are usually associated with trauma but can also be an early sign of  allergic reaction esp when there are other symptoms like rash, and itching .  Check in with the dentist that prescribed it.
