i'm on amoxicillin 500 mg and after the 1st dose my skin got itchy and had a few hives pop up, both stopped within 3hrs, should i be worried?

Yes. This most: likely represents an allergic reaction to the medication. Contact your health care provider and explain your situation. He/she should prescribe an alternative medication. Do not take another Amoxicillin.

Rash: If you are having a penicillin reaction it should begin to clear immediately on stopping the medication, which must be replaced with a different antibiotic if required. If you discontinued PCN a while ago, and rash just started recently, probably not related to the antibiotic. Please call the Dentist that placed you on antibiotic for examination/diagnosis/treatment.

my son was given amoxicillin had hive reaction to it. he was switched to cefdinir. he continues with hives. does this mean he's also allergic to this?

MGt: The allergic reaction to Amoxicillin can still be the cause of this rash, but a new drug allergy is also possible. He should be treated with an antihistamine. Is he experiencing any respiratory problems? If so, please see the ED right away. It is important to contact your PCP.

Stop amoxicillin: ... And call your doctor immediately. If you experience difficulty breathing, go to the nearest er.

i have had a previous reaction (hives) to ceclor. i was recently prescribed amoxicillin and had a severe reaction after 5 days. is this a rare event?

No: You are obviously allergic to penicillin. Penicillins and cephalosporins are related and if you are allergic to one you are risk of being allergic to both.  It is very important that you dont take medicines of either group in the future and may consider a medalert bracelet.

It isn't that rare.

Amoxicillin given to: A child or adolescent who has a sore throat ; fever caused by infectious mononucleosis causes  a very " measly-looking" (morbilliform) rash about 100% of the time, to the point that it's pretty much diagnostic of " mono". Many drugs can cause a morbilliform rash. For further information ; photos, see http://dermnetnz.Mobify.Me/reactions/morbilliform.Html. I've not heard of "infused hives".

Yes: Even though you have used Amoxicillin previously, you can develop an allergic response at any time in the future.  You should stop the medicine and call your doctor.

finished amoxicillin 2 days ago and now breaking out into random hives only on one side? is it related? the wheels do not go away/move from their spots but new ones pop up they tend to stop itching after a bit? they cluster in 2s but also appear solo?

strep/mono tests were both negative but doc still thinks its strep. i am now on amoxicillin and prednisone and getting hives breakouts. was on a diff antibiotic, thought i was allergic bc of hives and went to a diff doc. but im still breaking out. ?

Drug rash or mono?: One or the other of the two doctors -- probably the most recent one -- is in the best position to judge whether the rash is drug allergy and which antibiotic is responsible. Notably, drug rash with amoxicillin is especially common in infectious mononucleosis. And mono itself may cause rash. Ask your doctor(s) about possible retesting for mono.
