i've had acne moderately since 15. it cleared up 95% by 25. i was put on a large dose of amoxicillin and have been getting a lot of acne every since.

Instead try...: Topical benzoyl peroxide plus topical clindamycin. Amoxicillin isn't everybody's favorite drug for acne, or long-term maintenance for anything i know. If the topical regimen i've mentioned isn't perfect for you, systemic tetracycline, perhaps 500 2x/day might work. All acne is easy to manage today.

supposed to take amoxicillin dose every 8 hours. what happens if you miss one dose by three hours?

Not much: If you miss a dose of antibiotic or take one late, just get back on the regular schedule prescribed by your doctor, stay on it, and you should be ok.  Doses are timed to keep the amount of drug in your system at an optimal level to do what the drug is intended to do--in the case of antibiotics, they weaken or kill bacteria.  A single missed dose lets the level get too low but is correctable.

i am on a 5 day amoxicillin dose. i get a lot of nausea after taking the capsule. any recommendation on food items i can take to hold the pull down so i dont throw up after taking it??

Amox: Amoxicillin is usually well tolerated. In your experience it's best to take immediately after eating some solid food which will coat your stomach lining better than soup or crackers. You'll have to take it with meals even if it's not exactly every 8 hours. as it's not rocket science 
 If you still vomit you are most likely intolerant of it and will have to switch to another antibiotic.

my 4 year old son weighs 39lbs and was dx with an ear infection. amoxicillin dose is 400mg/5ml  9ml twice daily.... does that dose seem high?

This is appropriate: Appropriate dosing for amoxicillin in treating bacterial ear infections is up to 80 -100 mg per kilogram per day. At 38 pounds I most typically dose 9-10 ml per dose twice daily of the 400 mg/ 5 ml amoxicillin.  There is no increase in side effects but it offers improved coverage of resistant bacteria that cause ear infections.

See a doctor: Diarrhea after taking a course of antibiotics could indicate a serious infection. I recommend you see a doctor.

No: The usual antibiotics, used to treat only severe acne, are erythromycin, clindamycin, doxycycline, and minocycline.

Yes, and others...: Depending on certain situations you may have discussed with your doctor, Amoxicillin can be used, other healthcare professionals, depending on the situation ( eg age, allergies, drug interactions) , may prescribe a different antibiotic such as doxycycline, clindamycin, and others.

i've been sick so i've been taking amoxil (amoxicillin). could it be a side-effect that my acne has vanished!?

Sure!: Amoxicillin is not commonly used to treat acne, but some strains of propionibacterium acnes (the bacteria that's present in most cases of acne) are susceptible to amoxicillin, and you obviously are one of those people.

i'm on 75mg of minocycline for acne and was just prescribed 825mg of amoxicillin. are these two okay to be taken together? dr said it was ok

Your doctor: probably wanted to broaden the spectrum of the antibiotic treatment. Talk to your doctor before using minocycline together with amoxicillin. Combining these medications may reduce the effectiveness of amoxicillin. Your doctor may be able to prescribe alternatives that do not interact. Best !
