i was just prescribed amitriptyline for aiding sleep and was wondering what the difference is from ambien (zolpidem) which i used to be prescribed.

New medicine: This medicine works differently than ambien (zolpidem).  For that reason, it may work better or worse for you.  It can cause you to feel sleepy.  It can also cause a feeling of a dry mouth or light headedness.  It is used often in Neurology to prevent headaches or for nerve pain also.

Regular periods: So long as you have regular periods and there have been no recent changes in your medication regimen- I'd say your chances of conception are the same taking as well as not taking those medications you've mentioned.

Depends: These two medicines can be taken together but you may end up feeling more groggy/drowsy then you want in AM. 10 mg of amitriptyline is a starting dose,instead of combining the two drugs, increasing the dose of it may be a better option. But before you up that dosage, talk to you doctor about the best plan of action, especially if you have any other issues like kidney or heart disease.

my urologist prescribed tadalafil for groin pain today. i am failing to see anywhere if it actually helps groin pain. was this a good prescription? im also taking ambien and amitriptyline for insomnia. do any of these meds badly interact?

: I'm also puzzled by that prescription for groin pain. Does he/she consider you to be experiencing erectile dysfunction, difficulty urinating, or prostate problems? Were you checked for the presence of an inguinal hernia? Strained inguinal ligament from playing sports? If your symptoms persist, a revisit  or a second opinion would be in order.

If prescribed that: way - yes. Potential drug interaction symptoms are   dizziness, sedation, V judgment &amp; concentration. But, it you are asleep - those issues are not likely to matter.

In special cases: After consultation with your physician, this might be appropriate in selected cases and on a short-term basis.  The bigger question is why the patient wakes up secondary to pain.  A better treatment is to optimize the pain medication regimen so the pain does not interfere with sleep.

i have been up for three days. tried lunesta, (eszopiclone) ambien, dphnhydrm. elavil. tonight doxylamine succinate. i took 50 mg ~4 hrs ago. can i take 1 more?

50 mg is max: 50mg is the max recommended dose for insomnia using doxylamine.  I would recommend consulting your physician for an exam - possibly even a psychiatrist or sleep specialist to determine why you haven't been able to sleep!

Different: Everyone is different.  It also depends upon why you are having difficulty with sleep.  If you suffer insomnia talk to your doctor about this.  There are many medications that can be used for  this disorder.

Interaction avoid it: Using Amitriptyline together with zolpidem may increase side effects such as dizziness, drowsiness, and difficulty concentrating. Some people may also experience some impairment in thinking and judgment. You should avoid or limit the use of alcohol while being treated with these medications.  . It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. D.

Depends...: ...On what it's for, what medical conditions a person has., what other medications (including over the counter meds) they are taking, and what side-effects it causes them.
