just started 10 mg of lexapro (escitalopram) 2 weeks ago. i am always tired and i have been sleeping a lot. is this a common occurrence and when will it stop?

Not uncommon: to experience a few effects when starting antidepressant. Give it some more time to even out. If at 4 weeks you're still having some effects talk to the provider who started the Lexapro (escitalopram) about switching to a medication less likely to cause sedation. Sleep study: You should discuss this with your doctor to rule out any type of disease process and also to consider sleep apnea, chronic fatigue syndrome or other related issues.  A diary your sleep patterns and what you did the day and night before are also critical.

Could be sleep apnea: Patients who have sleep apnea will often feel tired and not well-rested.  They may spend a lot of time sleeping but rarely get into rem sleep.  You should discuss this with your doctor.

Get checked out.: Chronic fatigue can be due to anemia or thyroid problems, which are often easily fixed.  There are many other causes too.  To find out, see your doctor for a thorough history and physical.  Too much salt ain't good!

Get better sleep: Sleep is good medicine..If you don't sleep well, you won't feel well and this will affect your performance, mentally and physically.
So, good sleep hygiene is of much importance. Find out why you can't sleep well and correct that. You may end up needing a sleep med, but try non-medication methods..Regular aerobic exercises, avoid napping/stimulant use etc..

Question unclear: Anybody who does not get sufficient rest, works long tedious hours and gets exercise as well is going to be tired. If you think your fatigue may due to other factors see a doctor and be evaluated..
