Often normal: This is a very common point of confusion. Ast/alt reflect recent liver cell injury. A person who has ruined his liver with alcohol but is now sober may have normal ast/alt or perhaps even always did. In fact, apart from serum bilirubin and Albumin & some obscure tests, it's hard to know how the liver is actually working -- perhaps "how to you feel?" is still best?

Manage it: This is worrisome and while this doesn't qualify as any kind of cirrhosis, you could end up with it. I trust hepatitis c, Wilson's, and a few others have been ruled out. Stay trim and fit and ask about meds.

: Such high enzyme levels indicate rather severe liver damage, such as acute hepatitis. Whether there is risk of permanent damage and ultimate cirrhosis depends on the cause, how long the problem has been present, and other factors. For example, potentially very different outcomes between viral hepatitis, alcohol, drug toxicity (like acetaminophen overdose), autoimmune, etc. Discuss w/ your doctor.

Not unusual: It's not unusual to have normal liver enzyme levels when you have cirrhosis.  These enzymes are elevated when there's is ongoing liver damage.  Cirrhosis is scarring of the liver.  If the damage to the liver has already been done, the levels may be normal.

Not per se: A person with cirrhosis could have an elevated ALT. However most people with mildly elevated ALT do not have cirrhosis. More information is need to evaluate you for cirrhosis and you should consult your doctor for a physical and may be addition tests, including imaging study.

i suffer from cirrhosis, can i take thc edibles 10mg? does it affect my alt?

Accepted Answer

: THC is metabolized in the liver and it may or may not affect your ALT depending on many other factors. In case decision to start, would start at much lower doses, 2.5-5 mg and titrate slowly up for intended effect as side effects from THC will be likely, given hepatic status.

: As advised earlier, these results are not diagnostic of anything.
Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests.

ast/alt albumin, bilirubin ,platelets alkaline phosphate,total protein,ggt are all normal? i have what looks like thread veins on my face and on chest i worry its cirrhosis.i drink beer everyday after work?

: I answered your question already. With those normal lab results, an advanced liver disease is almost ruled out so the vessel finding on your face and chest, presumably those are spider veins, is not due to liver disease. As recommended before, you should cut down the amount of alcohol consumption or stop it altogether; otherwise, your concern may become a reality in the future with daily drinking.

Unlikely: cirrhosis takes many years to develop usually and you're still a young person your values are low which is a good sign good health. these low values do occur if you have risk factors for cirrhosis such as genetic predisposition severe and long term alcohol use or autoimmune disorders then that is another issue.
