Probably gallbladder: This is likely related to gallstones but increased alt/ast are atypical. See doc & get tests. If due to gallstones most docs advise surgery but i've had many patients have great success with natural therapies to dissolve gallstones & flush them out of the liver/gallbladder. dx w/ra. started enbrel. lab showed my alt and ast were elevated (122/75) . dr took me off this week. does this cause permanent damage? also, my legs and feet started swelling 2 wks ago. cant wear shoes. never happened before. are these related?

: The abnormal liver enzymes should be transient if medication is discontinued, very less likely Enbrel causes a permanent liver damage.
Leg and foot swelling (edema of the lower extremities) is not a known adverse effect of Enbrel. I have patients with rheumatoid arthritis with leg edema as the first manifestation of the disease.
Leg edema is often present in renal, cardiac and liver diseases.

experiencing chronic fever for 23 days, night sweats and pain under right ribs. high lymphs, low neutrophils, high alt/ast and elevated crp. causes?

Labs aren't key: In a fever of unknown origin workup, the routine blood work is seldom key. Get a competent physician. First and foremost, we need to rule out bacterial endocarditis. Especially if the fever jumps around, hodgkin's needs to be ruled in or out. You may have tuberculosis, malaria, sarcoid, a non-hodgkin's lymphoma or any of a number of other illnesses.  Trust you're on no meds.

ast elevated (65), alt elevated (50) and total bilirubin elevated (3.0). all other enzymes are normal. is this significant??

Elevated Bilirubin i: Elevated Bilirubin is concerning. Elevated AST and ALT are mild. You need to see liver specialist ( Hepatologist)
and have more testing.

Need to examine: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Talk to the doctor who ordered the tests. Having said that, your results are suggestive of an auto-immune disorder. If you drink alcohol, stop entirely and repeat the tests in 3 months, unless your symptoms worsen.

Depends on biopsy: Cirrhosis can only be truly proven by a liver biopsy.  Certain lab tests, such as bilirubin, INR, albumin, and platelets are often used as surrogate markers of liver function, and are an indirect estimator/predictor of cirrhosis. Additionally, imaging such as ultrasound or CT can suggest cirrhosis. But again, a biopsy is technically needed to prove the diagnosis of cirrhosis.

Liver function tests: Those are very very mild elevations and can even be caused by a transient viral infecton. What were the original symptoms? Perhaps a wait an see approach and repet the bloods in a month.

Possibkle Hepatitis!: These are liver enzymes. They typically rise if you have liver ailments like hepatitis which commonly occurs due to virus infection or due to excessive alcohol use. You need to go see your doctor who can monitor the liver functions and guide you further.

Several causes: There are several causes of elevated liver enzymes. Your doctor will need to check blood tests for lipids and hepatitis and then may need do a liver ultrasound to determine the cause. Common causes are alcohol, fatty liver and viral hepatitis.
