Yes: You may switch the formula to a standard infant soy formula, but often milk allergy co-exists with soy allergy. Please have a food panel allergy test performed and a total IgE level. The symptoms of milk allergy may be confused with milk intolerance. Please discuss the latter with your PCP upon follow up. The formula that your son is currently taking is a good choice as well.

: There is a difference. Those allergic to bovine (cow) milk are allergic to the bovine protein. A woman is not allergic to the human milk proteins she produces including it component parts.

Finish question: Reflux will not be fixed with milk change. Keep up 45 degrees 30 min after feeds. If bad enough your pediatrician may prescribe medication like zantac (ranitidine). Homeopathy and chinese medicine can also help.

Solid Foods: The recommended time to startbsolid foods is 4-6 months of agr. This doesn't mean you have to stop breastfeeding. In fact you are encouraged to continue. But this is the time to add solids.

See below: Alimentum, neocate and pregestimil are known as elemental formulas-indicated for milk protein allergies.  Other than breast, they are the mainstream choices.  They are expensive and taste is usually hands down terrible. Try to pump and save your breast milk. If in short supply, you may mix the formula w/breast milk to allow gradual adaptation to the formula.

Breast milk: Many pediatricians and pediatiric clinics assign the diagnosis of "foor allergies" as a cause of "colic" or poor feeding by an infant. It is possible that no "true allergies" have occurred, and if your infant is thriving (putting on predicted weight) it is unlikely that your breast milk is creating a problem. Ask a pediatric dermatologist for advice if your infant is not growing appropriately.

Vomiting not reflux: If your infant is truly cow's milk protein allergic & tolerated neocate & then vomited when breast milk was added the cause is likely an allergen in your breast milk (bm). Dairy in mom's diet almost always enters bm. This is a normal process & not "leaky gut". It's possible that your infant has other food allergies to other foods in your bm. Common culprits are egg, soy, and wheat.

Newborn jaundice : No breast milk does not prevent newborn jaundice which will happen to most of newborn.  Usually breast feeding newborns may have more jaundice than formula feeding babies. Because breast milk is the best nutrition for infants it is recommended that babies fed with breast milk. Neonatal jaundice should be followed closely and treated with photo therapy (bili light) if needed.

Most of the time yes: Infants often normally reflux small amounts of milk after feeding, while burping, with motion or for no reason at all.  They then can be hungry again very soon, and you can go ahead and feed them.  But if the amount is unusually large or frequent, or their urine is dark, see your doctor asap.
