i can't get rid of dry skin from an allergic reaction? tips/suggestions?

Moisturizer and time: After an allergic reaction that affects the skin, it can take time for the skin to heal.  There are many different types of skin reactions including blisters, hives, sandpaper-like, oozing, sunburn type, etc.  As long as the trigger of the skin reaction has been removed, antihistamines may help with itching, but moisturizers especially ointments applied within 3 minutes of a bath can help dry skin.

my son 8months old have an allergic reaction. skin reacted badly. was admitted and given steroid creams. everything cleared up but he now has very dry skin and the skin has developed a rough texture. what can i do for texture and extreme dryness?

Get checked by Docto: Itching is common among normal healthy people. Most often it is due to dry skin which is very common in colder winter months(home heat make sit much worse). It is not a common symptom or lymphoma. So you can get that out of your mind. Use some oily lotions daily and it should settle down. If it gets worse/persists despite well oiled skin, then get a medical check up from your doctor.

Probably: an irritative folliculitis...inflammation of the tiny pouches i which your hairs are growing ..this is often caused BY SHAVING TOO CLOSE or TOO OFTEN! An antibacterial moisturizing soap may help! Ask your PCP (Primary Care Provider) for a suggestion!

Good skin care: The condition is called eczema. The most important care is using a good skin moisturizer daily after bath. Other skin care steps include using less harsh soaps like dove sensitive skin soap, free and clear detergents. Using a humidifier in winter when you have the heat on. A quick shower in lukewarm water rather than a prolonged hot shower is better to preserve the skin oils.

Unlikely: It is unlikely that applying lotion (which by the way is usually made from animal or plant fat) will cause you any long term harm.

Not usually: If allergies are ruled out you have some other reason for urticaria. I assume your allergist or internist have looked for these systemic diseases. That would leave you in a large percentage of people with idiopathic urticaria. If you are otherwise healthy, as determined by your doctor, this condition may recurr over time. The dry skin is indcidental, but it could be an irritant and trigger attacks.

do warm mist humidifiers help with dry skin and allergies?

No: It is my understanding that humidifiers add litle to the humidity of a house (most moisture goes into ceiling and rafters) so these are of little to no benefit for dry skin. What works best is "soaking and trapping".  That is soak skin and then trap the moisture within 2 minures with moisturizers. ..And creams are better than lotions and ointments and oils are better than creams..

is it possible to develop a skin rash just from dry skin or are skin rashes caused by allergies?

Yes: and in the case of dry skin, one may see small raised bumps especially at the extremities. These will often be prevented by using a moisturizer with 3 minutes after bathing. A rash can also be induced by scratching as well. Some skin rashes are caused by allergies (often contact, drug etc) while many are not.

Dandruff: You are asking two questions. Dandruff can be caused by dry skin, but it can be caused by other conditions like psoriasis. And yes, allergies can cause dry skin.
