No. : Alcohol will strip away all of the natural oils that you do need and dry out your skin too much. Not only will you have dry and flaky skin, but usually it becomes oily as a result of trying to replace what is lost. Try a more gentle astringent or toner.

You can, but...: ...I wouldn't recommend it. Alcohol on an open wound will sting like crazy, and your child won't let you near him or her again! plain old soap and water, used gently, will do an excellent job of cleansing the overwhelming majority of superficial skin wounds.

It depends.: As long as you are otherwise healthy and have an up to date tetanus vaccination it is reasonable to watch the area.  Wash it daily with soap and water.  If the area developes increasing redness, pain, or drainage see a healthcare professional right away.  If this nail went thru the bottom of a shoe this increases risk of a certain type of infection that you would best be given antibiotic for now.

There is none.: Alcohol is metabolized at a very steady and predictable rate.  That is why police are able to test and make it stick in court and why doctors can tell about how long it will take for you to wake up. There is no magic cure for being drunk.

Accepted Answer

Both are limited: Hydrogen peroxide is actually quite good to use on a dirty or acutely infected wound.  The down side is that it coagulates proteins, forming pieces of matter that will most likely sit in the wound and serve as food for organisms.  Alcohol is not good on wounds period.  It will cause destruction of all living cells in the wound including your own.

Accepted Answer

Dilute peroxide: Alcohol can be irritating to the site.  Usually use of very dilute peroxide solution (half water/half peroxide) and a topical antibiotic ointment is preferred.  Also, twisting the post 2-3 times per day with that combination makes for proper healing.

Soap and water: Wash the area of the tick bite with a lot of warm water and soap. A mild dishwashing soap, such as ivory, works well.
