Drink Less !: If a person drinks so much alcohol that they have a blackout, that is likely a real problem. A person may engage in reckless and dangerous behaviors during an alcohol induced blackout, and then not remember what happened. The only thing to do, is to drink less. It is important to be responsible in what we do and what we consume. I had a patient who killed her husband and does not remember doing it.

Lots of names for it: A sudden loss of alertness resulting in a blackout is SYNCOPE. Now, there are tons of causes such as Ed McMann knocking on your door with a $10 million check from Publisher&#x27;s Clearing House. Perhaps, more for the fact that The McMannster is dead; or heart rhythm change, stroke/TIA, seizure, your favorite Rock Goddess saying YES to a date..SYNCOPE- Almost sounds like it could be a Billy Joel tune.

Beer blackouts: Beer and wine have lower percentage of alcohol compared to spirits like vodka etc.

See your doc: Any alcohol related blackout should be taken seriously.  Whether or not you are diabetic, if you are blacking out you are having a problem with drinking.  While any damage from one incident is not likely to be great, the long term of effects of drinking and blacking out are serious and progressive both physically and psychologically.  You probably should not be drinking.

Yes: Alcohol alone can cause blackouts. Combining it with a variety of medications that also act on the brain intensifies the effect. Check for interactions on Drugs.com or some related web site.

: Cardiac arrythymia ( like atrial fibrilation or pre-mature ventricular contractions) can cause temporary alterations in consciousness.  See a cardiologist for an exam and EKG, as there are other causative factors.
