Yes it can: Melanoma/moles can regress spontaneously and recur. So be sure to consult a dermatologist and get proper  diagnosis and appropriate treatment.

Persistent lump: Any mass that persists or grows larger over time deserves to be evaluated for potential cancer. Although most tumors in the scalp are simple benign cysts related to the hair structure, melanoma and other cancers can develop there as well. Melanoma is not usually familial, but your mother's experience should still be cautionary. Get it seen.

Skin lesion: If you have a mole or other skin lesion that has changed in shape (such as seeming to "split"), it's very important to have it evaluated by a dermatologist or family doctor with training in skin disease. You may need a small biopsy. Even if the lesion doesn't show any other ABC signs of melanoma, it's better to be safe than sorry!

Probable hemangioma: The  common skin lesions to have are related to squamous or basal cell Ca's and appear as sores that scab but don't heal.  Melanoma is not usually a pinkish lesion but dark brown nevus.  It grows laterally by having variegated colors such as brown, black, grey or forms a nodular lesion.  Hemangiomas can appear as small pink skin grows or remain very flat, They cant be popped or if forced to, bleed
