There are many studi: At one time vitamin e was felt to be a useful vitamin due to its antioxident effects. But recent studies have not shown it to be of any value...So it can be safely left out. Vitamin c has somewhat more favorable reports of its benefits in wound healing, gum health and as a preventive medicine against common colds but not everyone is convinced about its benefits, .So it is also somewhat debated item.

The one you like: There are hundreds of brands of prenatal vitamins. My suggestion to patients is to try a few and find one you like. The best vitamin is the one you will actually take. All contain Folic Acid which is important. Some contain stool softeners which is helpful for pregnancy constipation. Some contain DHA so you do not have to take a separate pill.

Go to a good store or get some guidance because the popular brands are typically very week and not helpful.  The dose (read label and check that half or more of the ingredients are several 100 per cent above RDA.  Dose more important than a long list.

None of them: Vitamins don't have but a few calories, so they cannot help a person gain weight (if the person is in normal health already). The children's gummy vitamins have a few more calories. A person should take a regular once-a-day vitamins plus minerals, just to be sure he is not missing any vitamin. His primary care doctor can discuss whether of not he might need extra vitamin d, etc...
