Many reasons: I could be simply increased gas. However problems such as Gastric Outlet obstruction, due to an ulcer or small bowel obstruction must be also considered. Do you have history of peptic ulcers? Do you have Nausea and vomiting.Please see a gastroenterologist SOON if thye answer is yes to either questions.

Even "functional" syndromes may be present without underlying "disease." however psbo (paralyzed gut) due to metabolic &amp; inflammatory conditions nearby (like an untreated infection of the urinary tract)must be considered &amp; addressed. Check with your doctor for examination &amp; treatment options.

Metformin side effec: You are most likely experiencing a side effect of Metformin which very often causes gastrointestinal upset or other symptoms.  Over the counter remedies for gas or diarrhea or a probiotic may be helpful until you body adjusts to the medication.  Also, decreasing or splitting the dose may help.  Please discuss this with your doctor. Please do not adjust any medication on your own.

Even "functional" syndromes may be present without underlying "disease." However SBO (paralyzed gut) and/or ascites are just some of the serious conditions possible here that warrant you check with your doctor for examination now.

Can be: bloating can be normal, BUT self limited
if your abdomen is hard and or tender or you have a fever,
or feel dizzy when arising, go back and get checked.
if a perforation occurred, it can cause internal bleeding, infection and even bowel injury--ALL emergencies.
alternatively go the ER for a possible CT scan and blood count
