Why would upper stomach be swollen?

Many reasons: I could be simply increased gas. However problems such as Gastric Outlet obstruction, due to an ulcer or small bowel obstruction must be also considered. Do you have history of peptic ulcers? Do you have Nausea and vomiting.Please see a gastroenterologist SOON if thye answer is yes to either questions.
