This can be done via a scalpel, a needle, a biopsy 'punch' (like a cookie cutter), or etc. The post-op expectations might be: minor pain, minor swelling, minor bleeding, etc. There may be no after effects at all.

Cure of high calcium: A parathyroidectomy for primary hyperparathyroidism should cure the hypercalcemia and relieve any associated symptoms such as fatigue, constipation, or excessive urination.  There is a small risk of a low blood calcium all the parathyroids  removed and/or damaged.  If the nerve for the vocal cords is damaged hoarseness may be a problem.  Over time bone density may improve and kidney stones reduced.

Itch-&gt; death: Mild cases may be itching, hives,  vomiting, and fatigue, severe cases can be life-threatening when respiratory problem or vascular collapse (shock) occurs.   If you have this issue, be sure to have Epinephrine with you all at time.  Oral antihistamine will not do you any good. Even more important, see an allergist to find out what the trigger is.

Depends: It really depends on your age, medical history and time under anesthesia.  Common issues are dizziness, lightheadedness, dry mouth, nausea, headache, tired feeling - all kind of like a hangover.  Sometimes in older people, especially if they have a history of some dementia, there may be postoperative delirium or worsening of dementia.  It is best to speak with your anesthesiologist before surgery.
