Accepted Answer

Depends: Cataract surgery involves the substitution of an artificial lens for the removed and cloudy natural lens.  This causes the iris to recede backwards in the eye as the new lens is smaller.  This creates a smaller pupil and that is the usual expectation.  On your next visit with your cataract surgeon bring this up as perhaps there is some remedy or other cause in your case.

Depends: Your cataract surgeon may have used intraoperative medication to constrict the pupil (Miochol™, Miostat™). This is medication is used for a variety of reasons. Sometimes it's use is to assess vitreous presentation in the anterior chamber during capsular rupture. It is also used for anterior chamber intraocular lens placement &amp; for performing an iridectomy. The pupil construction will resolve.

Complex: This depends on what goals you have with your surgery.  Your ophthalmologist should discuss the options, benefits and limitations of the available lens implants.

Vision &amp; Catarac: Vision usually decreases with cataract formation; Depending on pre-operative risk factors (ie, hypertension, diabetes, pseudoexfoliation, trauma, etc) the vast majority of patients achieve 20/20 vision after cataract surgery (low risk factor patients). Depends: Arcs of light after cataract surgery can be related to the lens implant or the vitreous gel of the eye.  Please see your eye surgeon for a proper diagnosis.

Yes: Many times flash lights, or photopsias, can occur from the way light hits the implant; however, they can also be a sign of a retinal problem.  Call your surgeon today.

Yes: Yes.  If you need a prescription after surgery, then contact lenses can be used.

No: Cataract surgery does not cause dizziness.  You should see a primary care doctor for evaluation of dizziness.

Accepted Answer

Likely lens exchange: Choosing the correct refractive power in the lens implanted in the eye during cataract surgery is vitally important to restoring clear vision. If the incorrect lens is mistakenly implanted, typically a second surgery to replace the lens is required. On occasion the incorrect lens is similar enough to the correct lens that minor glasses or even laser surgery can be done to correct the error.

Depends: It really depends on your surgeon and the surgical technique.  I use no stitches and usually advise my patients that they cannot go swimming for two weeks following cataract surgery.
