Rhinitis: You have developed rhinitis medicamentosa due to the use of the nasal spray decongestants.  There is treatment to help you discontinue use of the decongestant sprays, as you will unlikely be able to quit cold turkey.  You may have an underlying problem like allergic rhinitis or hay fever that will need to be treated to keep you well.  See your doctor or a board certified allergist or ENT for help.

will using afrin before a steroid or other medication nose spray increase the effectiveness of the other spray? i do know to double check interactions and never use afrin for more than 3 days (rebound congestion, septum damage, etc). thanks!?

: I do not think so. Alfrin causes vasoconstriction so any medication used after Alfrin should be less effective because vasoconstriction limits other medication's absorption.

can adderall or afrin nasal spray or a generic form of claritin d cause a positive methamphetamine result on a drug test?

Pseudoephedrine: Since the D in Claritin had been used to manufacture methamphetamine, I would suspect that it will produce a positive drug test.  As for Afrin nasal spray, it is difficult to tell since any absorption would be minor and thus likely detectable only with extremely sensitive method.   I hope other members in this panel will jump in on this topic.

: The drug in Afrin is not monitored in usual drug tests for substances of abuse, 
For healthy diet: http://www.choosemyplate.gov/., exercise 30 minutes/day, drink enough water daily so your urine is mostly colorless, have safe sex, no tobacco alcohol weed or street drugs.

Which end?: yes, it has been done, could be uncomfortable - and may be with different sprays, but local anesthetic only.

can you take many sprays of afrin (oxymetazoline) in one day without overdosing?

Accepted Answer

Not advisable: The usual dosing of afrin for an adult is 2 sprays/nostril twice a day. Any more is overdosing. It does not give incrementally improved results and risks you complications like headache, insomnia and nervousness. Absolute maximum time of usage of afrin is 5 days. Longer than this leads to tachphylaxis and worsening of nasal congestion. If you find yourself chronically congested, see your doctor.

i took afrin (oxymetazoline) nasel spray for a cold this afternoon, is it safe for me to still take nyquil tonight even though it won't be 12 hours since i took afrin (oxymetazoline)?

Yes: Yes. It will be fine as long as you don't have a heart or BP condition.

why a decongestant spray like afrin immediately following a nosebleed?

Helpful measure: Afrin &amp; similar products act directly at tissue level to shrink down capillaries that bleed in a nose bleed. The effect can last for hours. It may not stop a NB but can reduce the blood flow to the area involved. This would assist other measures.

Yes: Afrin spray is a powerful decongestant spray that makes blood vessels constrict. If used longer than a few days there may be a rebound effect causing more nasal congestion and ultimately can damage the nasal lining.

can you use 1 year expired afrin nasal spray?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The potency possible will be less still only use 1-2 sprays per nostril. If it works great! There is no concern that it went sour or could harm you.
