DBT: Dbt (dialectic behavior therapy) has been helpful for some with bpd.  If it is available in your location, it is a good first step.  Some 12 step programs including aa or al-anon can also be helpful especially if there are substance abuse issues in either the parent or the family.

And they don't know?: Seriously, i would simply tell them in your own words what it is and how it feels. I would also only do this if you been officially diagnosed by mental health professional. There is also an excellent book "walking on egg shells" by paul mason. It is a book on how to live with someone who has borderline personality disorder. It is a great read and i know paul personally since we both work in the same city.

Education is the: Education is the best teach, things such as brochures, and any other information on the subjest is a good way of explaing your condition. Even support groups and therapist education on the subject can help greatly.

Possibility: This sounds like an extremely complex situation that would benefit more from working individually with an experienced psychologist or psychiatrist. A few ideas: All parents of teens need to get used to being unthanked, unappreciated, and considered foolish. Tell Junior, 'Well be here for you when you get in trouble' -- and your teen will, and you will offer unconditional help and love. It's a stage of spiritual growth for you. Refers to children: Child forms a strong emotional bond with caregivers during childhood with lifelong consequences.  The absent parent or child going from one foster home to another children can develop reactive attachment disorder, they can't trust adults. Children needs to know that a parent is there when they need them.

Active parenting: This style teaches you to give your child freedom with limits. The limits expand as the child shows more responsibility. Check out dr. Michael popkin's program at www.Activeparenting.Com. I used to teach the class to parents and found to be the best.

Be a team: All members of the "team" need to agree on the main aspects of their plan ahead of time and stick to it, backing each other up at all times. They (i assume you mean mom and dad) must also try not to undermine each other's judgment in front of the child.

Comfort and support: You can cope best by letting all of your thoughts and feelings be just as they are.  There is not "getting over" a death, there is only deeply resting with everything that comes up. Losing a loved one is a very important moment in one's life and can bring about great changes if one does not "shut things down".  Be gentle with yourself and seek psychological services to allow for growth from grief.
