Address the cause: It is best to address the cause of the pain. See a dentist. Dental pain rarely gets better on its own. It could be decay, gum disease or even something very serious.For short term relief  Ibuprofen will typically work better than acetaminophen. Address the cause and have your dentist evaluate the problem. Please don't let it grow into a bigger problem!

Some: Options are pretty much the same as you would use with children. Cold is often soothing so ice pops can help. Ibuprofen will help for more severe pain. In all cases keeping the area around erupting teeth clean will decrease chances of infection. If the pain worsens see a dentist for an evaluation.

I don't believe : There is any scientific correlation to support that theory.  Often it's genetic, medical or developmental issues that play a bigger role.  Obviously maintenance of good oral hygiene is paramount to keeping the gums and teeth strong and healthy.
