4 stages: Stage 1: tumor <5cm limited to the adrenal gland.
Stage 2: tumor >5 CM limited to the adrenal gland.
Stage 3: tumor of any size limited to the adrenal but with positive lymph node or tumor present in peri-adrenal fat but with negative lymph nodes.
Stage 4: tumor in periadrenal fat with positive nodes or tumor invading adjacent organs or with distant metastatic disease.

Cancer of the cortex, if functional, cause increased amount of corticosteroids resulting in fragile skin, fluid retention, hypertension etc.  Mets produce symptoms based on organ affected by mets.

Tough disease: Adrenal cancer tends to be an aggressive type.  Additionally, unlike breast & colon cancer, there aren't many effective drugs to treat it.  Consequently, the survival for patients with adrenal cancer tends to be rather low.  That being said, there are rare cases that can be completely removed with surgery and controlled for many years.
