Mostly no.: This is most commonly a psychiatic condition. Certainly there are a number of non-psyhciatric conditions that can cause a feeling of internal under the skin itching. One group are with skin conditions that are visible, and a second group might not be visible (drug withdrawal, calcium deposits, liver disease, etc.). Thes would be all over, tohers are for smaller areas of skin.

Vitamin D and skin: Lack of exposure to sun is certainly one common causes of vitamin d deficiency.

Deficiency of vitamin d can cause symptoms of tingling and numbness and feelings of crawling sensation on your skin as well.  This is called dysesthesia.   

A simple laboratory test can determine your vitamin d levels.

: Most of us use a pair of surgical loupes these days.  The magnification is great, especially with additional focused light to examine the area. Please visit your doctor and have the area checked. If you have facial hair, it would be more difficult to find any insect bite. It may also be a splinter or similar object that is hard to see.
