Don't really know: The actual cause of adhd is really unknown. Spect scans have been able to show abnormalities in the frontal lobe of those with adhd, but this doesn't explain cause. It is believed to be a chemical, rather than purely a behavioral disorder. Theories on cause are endless from diet, genetics, vitamin deficiency, toxin exposure, fetus development, etc.

This also helps prevent potassium levels from dropping if a patient is not eating or drinking. If a patient has lost a lot of potassium, as may occur with severe vomiting or diuretics, a higher concentration of kcl may be used in the iv.
