An ultrasound in the first trimester has only a 3-6 day error while later in pregnancy that error grows to 3 weeks. The gestational age is more accurate in early pregnancy and less likely to be off in the first trimester.

Please clarify: This is a little different of a question.  Can you clarify whether you are referring to the left ventricle of the heart and the entire size of the brain (as in volume, weight, or some other measure?).  Or are you asking about the size of the left ventricle of the brain? And why only the left ventricle and not the right?

just had an ultrasound today am supposed to be 9 weeks...last mp was 8/6/15 showing fetus +- 6 weeks in size no heartbeat and hcg levels 35000...help!

Sorry: Unfortunately, with bHCG at 35,000 and no FHT, I am sorry to say, the result does not look good. You need to talk with your Obstetrician ASAP. It helps to repeat the bHCG in 2 days to see if it drops or it doubles. Also, repeat the ultrasound. Sometimes, the worse looking situations can yield surprisingly positive results... like the sonographer being wrong. Good luck.

i'm 8 weeks 3 days pregnant. had a gynae consult yesterday and said heartbeat is only 81bpm and size of fetus is measuring 6 wks 2 days. i was told its possibly a failing preg. i was not put onto any hormones such as progesterone. get a 2nd opinion??

Plan for follow up: i would clarify with the doctor what the plan for follow up is.  If I was faced with this situation I would repeat the sonogram in one week.
