i've been juvenile onset type 1 diabetic for 35 years, and now have aches in legs (thigh mostly) at night in bed. can't sleep.  whats going on?

Not related: if your diabetes is controlled, nerve inflammation of diabetes needs sometime of uncontrolled blood sugar, moreover it affects the periphery (feet and hands) first rather than the big muscles, you are probably over exercising / exerting more stress on your muscles during the day, or may be not exercising enough, try warm compresses and mild pain killers if that doesn't work, see your doctor

my leg has been bothering me for over week. it hurts when im sitting on bed or have it bent while sitting. it feels better when i stand and last night it woke me up from sleeping. its like a deep ache all the way into my hip area?

What makes it better/worse? 
How long does it last?  
Medication helps/worsens?
 If you think it is something you eat/drink/do stop it &amp; see. If better, go back again &amp; retest until u r convinced it is something u should stop. Then stop it.

Discuss with your Drs. You all will figure it out.

Some possibilites: If you get calf cramps that intensify as you walk longer and longer, particularly if you have a history of smoking or atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, it could be "intermittent claudication" from plaques narrowing the inside of the arteries to your lower legs. I have more so I'll submit another answer.

Need a good exam: You'll need a very thorough workup from a medical perspective.  You could have an infection of sorts or there could be other issues that need to be looked at by a specialist.  If you have fevers or aren't able to hold anything down today or have another one of those spells then, I think your best bet is to travel to an ER to be seen. Otherwise, make an appointment as as possible with your doctor.

why do my legs and ankles  ache  and get heavy the longer i am in bed?

Ankle: Many things can cause your problem. Sometimes lesion inside of the ankle joint can cause swelling and pain. Malalignment of your lower extremities can also cause ankle pain.  During the night, you have more swelling accumulated inside of your ankle because your body weight is off.  
I would encourage you to see a doctor that can check your  legs alignment and check for lesions inside your ankles.

Restless legs: This sounds like restless legs syndrome. There are genetic and other causes as well as useful medications. You should see a doc, be screened for iron deficiency and consider lifestyle modifications and medications.

Restless Leg synd...: In older people, but in younger people its very rare.  Fortunately, there are some simple treatments.  Circulatory or neurological causes are common, and your doctor should be able to help figure out the cause and the treatment.

Sciatica shows up: Going from butt, to ankle and has a funny feeling of being 'stretched' but uncomfortable. Best if you can be seen by an osteopathic physician for evaluation, and treatment of your musculoskeletal system to determine the cause ; reduce pain. Your entire spine, hip, sacrum, pelvis, and extremities (arms/legs) will be evaluated, gait analysis too if it is sciatica, it can be easily treated.
