Isotretinoin: Accutane is a vitamin a like product that has amazing effects to treat significant acne. But with great benefit can come side-effects. While on Accutane , blood tests need to be performed to determine if triglycerides or cholesterol levels may elevate. The patient can also experience extreme dryness of the lips and skin with rash. Muscle aches ; headaches can occur. Long-term side effects are rare.

Choose your issue: The medication is not as well absorbed as it passes through your gut unless fat is in the mix. Without it, some of the medication passes through your system and ends up in your poo. If you would rather follow the "low-fat" mantra for its questionable health benefits you choose to lose some of the med. The choice is yours. A bit of fat intake as you take your med is not such a negative overall.

Most within 12 weeks: Acne can flare the first few months on isotretinoin.  Most patients start to see improvement within 12 weeks.  However, there are always a few patients who require a longer amount of time to see improvement.  Your dermatologist will be adjusting your dose as the months progress.

: Depending on the severity of your Acne, Accutane can take up to 1 year for the full treatment. You can stop after 4 months, but the acne may return. Talk to your Dr about discounts or coupons available from the pharmaceutical company to help with payment.
