does accutane cause crohn's disease?

Inconclusive: There are studies showing no link and other studies showing a potentially causal relationship. Since there is a potential risk, this is something that needs to be discussed with your doctor and consider benefits vs. Risks before starting this drug. If you decide to take this drug, any GI or bowel side-effects need to be reported immediately to your doctor.

No: Accutane may cause crohns and and even can cause a flareup in patients with crohns.

was told liver ezymes were still normal range (32 and 50) after doubling 1 mo accutane. if they raise more by end 2nd mo. could i get liver  disease?

Accepted Answer

Follow them: Liver enzymes rising even somewhat above reference range while on accurate is usually harmless in the long run. Stay off alcohol.

Accepted Answer

Accutane: The metabolism of the drug by your liver cells can damage them. Monitoring their functioning will not stop the damage unless you stop taking the med once evidence of damage shows up!!

does accutane have the potential to cause heart diseases? because my cholesterol and ldl levels have increased from taking this drug so just wondering if it'll impact my health in the long term. im 5 months into accutane?

: No.I have not seen reports of it affecting your cholesterol and LDL as blood levels driven by you genes and your diet.  So most likely you changed your diet between studies. Some folks are very sensitive to diet. Do a family tree for cholesterol and heart disease.  And learn to feed your roots correctly... to keep lipids healthier.

i have a friend who took accutane for a few years. does this mean hes at high risk of developing ulcerative colitis and/or crohn's disease?

I don't believe it: Studies of epidemiology are fraught with pitfalls; the most recent work that I've seen seems to discredit any link at all. Accutane is powerful medicine and does carry some other risks. Here are some ...: The appearance of acne is highly related with higher testosterone level and subtle imbalance between T and estrogen, which are genetically related and can not be corrected. So, it is not autoimmune. In reality, you have coped with it well; congratulate. Now, you need to accept, adopt, and adapt to what you have got in life and continue the ongoing coping, but not obsessive.

Accepted Answer

Transaminitis: A small elevation in your liver enzymes while taking medications such as accutane is acceptable and not uncommon.  There is no specific answer but levels would have to markedly elevated for some time to cause severe liver issues.

Accepted Answer

No: Main side effect= very dry skin, especially lips. Headaches more likely if taking pills with Vit. A. Side effects gone 1 week after last pill. MUST avoid pregnancy while on it.

42 yo male. graves disease (thyroid oblated), now hypogonadism. took accutane for acne years ago?.?.? neg. pituitary tumors. larger issue?

Accepted Answer

Maybe: Maybe. Need to have a full endocrine work up done to include a MRI of brain. If a negative then may have been a complication of thyroid ablation and can be corrected with testos replacement.
