Seek Treatment: Abcesses, even without pain, indicate infections that can spread to other places in your body. Often the infection will find a way to drain (usually the sinuses) which may be why you do not feel pain. It needs intervention right away. At a minimum antibiotics but most likely root canal treatment or extraction will be needed.

See a dentist: Most likely, what you are seeing is something called an eruption cyst. Eruption cysts are not uncommon and are nothing to worry about. However, you must go to a dentist to determine if, in fact, this is an eruption cyst.

OTC and DDS!: All the otc pain medications that you can take on your own have about equal onset of relief. Take what works best for you- advil, motrin, aleve (naproxen) or what you would normally take for a headache. However, the best and quickest relief will be obtained by seeing a dentist to determine the cause of the pain and start treatment. Thing can go downhill quickly, so don't delay!

Yes.: Usually tooth infection whether acute or chronic will trigger the immune system to react. Lymph nodes swelling is one of this reaction. Please consult a dentist for proper treatment.

Other way around: Theinfected tooth causes the abscess.  There are no pills, poultices, or snake oil that will cure. Tooth requires root canal Rx/crown or extraction/implant/crown, possibly supplemented by antibiotics. In other words, you need a Dentist. OTC NSAIDs (exactly as per package directions) and cold compresses may help take edge off until you get to a Dentist.

Immediate is better: If your dentist can see you today that would be ideal. If not they may be able to prescribe an antibiotic and/or pain killer to get you through till Monday.  In the mean time keep this tooth clean with gentle brushing and warm salt water rinses. Avoiding sweet and sticky foods should help as well. Good luck.

See a dentist ASAP: If you have a toothache, you may have a cavity, wisdom teeth or advanced gum disease. A tooth pain won't go away without treatment and the infection may spread to your jaw, cheeks, sinus and to other areas of your head and neck. You can use NSAID OTC or Tylenol (acetaminophen) for pain control. See a dentist ASAP for assessment.
